David Raatz
“Mazie Hirono is a good person. Her commitment to
social progress and justice is unwavering. While never compromising
on her principles, Mazie is always willing to work for consensus in order
to get things done for her constituents,” says David Raatz, who is
an attorney on Maui.
David was first introduced to Mazie by Leighton Oshima,
Mazie’s husband, in 1994 when she first ran for Lt. Governor.
“I became reacquainted with Mazie when we both volunteered
for the Kerry-Edwards campaign, both in Hawai'i and on the mainland, two
years ago.”
When asked what motivates him to volunteer in politics,
David said, “I’ve been concerned about protecting civil rights and civil
liberties since childhood. I was fortunate to attend a racially
diverse public school in Los Angeles County, where I was able to learn
about the teachings of Martin Luther King, Jr. at a young age.”
