Bernie Sakota & Mazie HironoBernie Sakoda

Mayor Eduardo Malapit first introduced Bernie to Mazie in 1993 when Mazie first ran for Lt. Governor.  The Mayor asked Bernie to help Mazie in her race, and she’s been a good friend of Mazie’s ever since.

Although you wouldn’t know it by looking at her, Bernie started her financial services company 36 years ago.  She serves as the executive vice-president and manager and has three employees.

Bernie is very active in the Lihue community.  Among the many things she’s does, she’s currently a board member for the Department of Water and Hui Alu Okinawan Club, is a member of Kauai economic development board, and has  served on various boards and commissions, including the state commission on Culture and the Arts.  She is currently President of Hawaii Financial Services Association.

Bernie has worked on many political campaigns over the years, with her first campaign was working for George Ariyoshi when he first ran for Governor.  Since then she has worked on every Democratic Governor’s race.
